Ireland have won a total of 7 medals at the EYOF

The 2009 European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) drew to a close in Tampere, Finland last night as wet weather conditions failed to dampen the spirits of Ireland’s athletes who enjoyed the Closing Ceremony at the Tampere Stadium.

Another silver for Ireland at the EYOF

Christine Mc Mahon has just won a silver in the 400m hurdles at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tampere Finland bringing the medal tally so far to 1 gold 3 silver and 1 bronze -more details to follow shortly

Another Bronze for Sycerika Mc Mahon

Sycerika Mc Mahon has just one another bronze in the 400 medley Swimming event in Tampere Finland. Ireland now has 5 medals in total Sycerika Mc Mahon Swimming 1 silver 2 bronze, Ciaran Mageean Athletics 1 gold and Shane Quinn Athletics 1 silver.

Gold for Ciara

Ciara Mageean won Ireland's first gold medal at the current edition of the European Youth Olympics yesterday and in doing so she broke a record that had stood since before she was born.

Shane Quinn from Co.Waterford has claimed Ireland's first track medal at the EYOF Games in Finland.

Gold at EYOF Games by Ciara Mageean

Ciara Mageean has just won Gold in the 1500m at the European Youth Olympic Festival at the Ratina Stadium in Tampere Finland. She ran a lifetime best fo 4:15.46 destroying the rest of the field and smashing the previous record set at the first edition of the European Youth Olympics.

Day One of EYOF Silver Medal in Swimming

Sycericka McMahon was the highlight of day one at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tampere Finland. Sycericka swam 4:15.00 in the girls 400m freestyle to finish second place behind Charlotte Bonnet of France.

One Minutes silence for Iranian Judo Cadet Team

During the EYOF Judo opening event Mr Pat Hickey, President of European Olympic Committees asked the participants for a one minute silence in memory of the Iranian Cadet National Team who lost their lives in the recent air crash in Iran on their way to Armenia for a Training Camp in prepartion for the Wrold Cadet Championships to be held in Budapest Hungary. This is a qualifer for the World Youth Games in Singapore 2010.
