EYOF Tampere 2009

Martin Burke, Chef de Mission of the European Youth Olympic team for the 2009 Games in Tampere, Finland next month has announced his team – and it features the Olympic management debut of Sonia O’Sullivan as Deputy Chef de Mission.

The Olympic flame for Tampere EYOF was lit in a traditional ancient ceremony in Athens on Thursday 4th of June. The torch will arrive Tampere early this Saturday.

The best of Irish schools’ athletics talent will compete at the All Ireland Schools Track & Field Final on Saturday, 30th May 2009 at Tullamore Harriers Stadium. This yearly event is the culmination of months of tough competition for schools’ athletes throughout Ireland, who have progressed through regional and provincial championships to secure their much sought after place in the All-Ireland final. Following the finals John McGrath , Team Manager, and selectors will nominate fourteen athletes to the Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) for consideration to compete at the European Youth Olympic Olympics in Tampere, Finland between 18th – 25th July 2009. Martin Burke, OCI Sports Director and Irish Youth Olympic Team Chef de Mission will be in attendance.

The Chefs de Mission seminar for the 2009 EYOF kicks off today at 2:30 here in Tampere.

Cyclists in contention for places at the European Youth Olympics in Tampere, Finland and head coaches were in Howth on Saturday 28th March.

14 Cyclists who hope to qualify for the 2009 Summer EYOF in Tampere, Finland attended a Planning for Success Seminar today at the OCI HQ in Howth. Stephen Martin, OCI CEO, advised the riders how to use their diaries as tools to meet their goals.

Plans for a Pre-EYOF Training camp are proceeding apace.

The Olympic Council of Ireland are working closely with athletes and support staff to assist them prepare for the unique environment of the European Youth Olympics in Tampere , Finland 18-25th July 2009.
