From Beijing to London

The Olympic Council of Ireland ,University College Cork, Loughborough University and the Chinese Ministry of Sport are in Cork for a two day conference aimed at both academics and practitioners from sports management, sports science, coaching and sports policy. The conference aims to bring together experts in their fields involved in elite sports provision, learn lessons from the Beijing Games and look ahead to London 2012.

The conference is being held at the newly refurbished Mardyke Arena and was opened yesterday by Cork’s Deputy Lord Mayor Tony Fitzgerald, Director Sun Daguang Director Chinese Sports Ministry, John Treacy CEO Irish Sports Council and Stephen Martin CEO Olympic Council of Ireland.Patsy Ryan , Director Mardyke Arena, and Professor Fan Hong Head of Asian Studies at UCC are the key local organisers for the conference.

Ireland’s Chef de Mission for London 2012 Sonia O’Sullivan and Stephen Martin will be presenting this afternoon and outlining the team’s plans for London 2012.
