500 Days’ to London 2012

Ireland prepares with hope and anticipation
With 500 days’ to the London Olympic Games Opening Ceremony on 27th July 2012, the Olympic Council of Ireland continues to work on solid preparations for all aspects of the games.
At the helm is Sonia O’Sullivan, Chef de Mission, working with the Olympic Management Team, she has complete focus on the organisation of all matters pertaining to the Irish Olympic Team (Team Ireland 2012).
All the athletes are well into their preparations for Olympic Qualification. We wish them all the very best with their endeavours.
2012 will, for the first time, have female boxing on the Olympic Programme and we must all hope that our multiple World Champion, Katie Taylor, will have the preparations and performances of her lifetime. We are all in full support of her hopes and aspirations and wish her the very best of luck.
The Olympic Council of Ireland Executive Board under the leadership of Pat Hickey President, are working on ensuring that the London Games will be really special for the Irish.
The celebrations in London commenced with the launch of a clock, which will now be counting down to 27 July 2012, in days, hours, minutes and seconds, it is seen as a significant moment in the build-up to the Games which have really started to accelerate. Trafalgar Square was chosen as the setting as it is one of London’s most recognisable landmarks and iconic locations, The countdown has commenced in earnest!
