The 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games were held in Innsbruck, Austria, from 12-22 January 2012.
The Games featured over 1,000 athletes from 69 nations and marked the inaugural edition of the Winter Youth Olympic Games. Ireland was represented by a small delegation consisting of one athlete, Florence Bell, an alpine skier who competed in both the Girls' Slalom and Girls' Giant Slalom events.
Bell also served as Team Ireland's flagbearer during the Opening Ceremony, proudly carrying the Irish flag at the country's first appearance at a Winter Youth Olympic Games.
