Team Ireland delivered another highly successful campaign at the 2017 European Youth Olympic Festival in Győr, winning six medals across athletics and cycling. A squad of 40 athletes competing in six sports represented Ireland and continued the country's strong tradition at Europe's premier youth multi-sport event.
The standout performance came from Sarah Healy, who won gold in the girls' 1500m with a personal best of 4:19.85, securing Ireland's only gold medal of the Games. The athletics team contributed five of Ireland's six medals, with Rhasidat Adeleke taking silver in the 200m, Patience Jumbo-Gula winning bronze in the 100m, Jade Williams securing bronze in the hammer throw, and the women's 4×100m relay team earning bronze (Niamh Foley, Miriam Daly, Patience Jumbo-Gula, Rhasidat Adeleke)
Cyclist Lara Gillespie made history by becoming the first Irish cyclist to win an EYOF medal, claiming silver in the girls' time trial.
Győr 2017 proved to be a launching pad for several future elite Irish athletes, notably Sarah Healy, Rhasidat Adeleke and Lara Gillespie, all of whom progressed to senior international competition and Olympic pathways in the years that followed.
