About

The 15th Summer EYOF was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 21-27 July 2019. Team Ireland travelled to Baku with a 32-athlete team competing across five sports and returned with an impressive haul of three medals, all won by athletes who would later progress to senior international success.

The star of the Games was Rhasidat Adeleke, who produced a breakthrough performance by winning double gold in the girls' 100m and 200m. Her victories marked one of the finest individual performances by an Irish athlete in EYOF history and signalled the emergence of a future Olympian and world-class sprinter.

Ireland's third medal came from swimmer Molly Mayne, who secured bronze in the 200m breaststroke, ensuring Team Ireland's success was shared across both athletics and swimming. Other notable performances included Sean Donoghue who finished 6th in the 1500m Final with a personal best of 3:58.15, Aimee Hayde also finished 6th in the 800m Final, Darren Rafferty placed 8th in the boys' cycling road race and Gymnasts Caoimhe Donohoe and Eve McKibbin gained valuable international experience in artistic gymnastics competition.
