Irish National Figure Skating Championships 2015

The very best in Irish figure skating talent will converge on the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on Saturday, 14 March from 11:00 for the Irish National Figure Skating Championships 2015 for what will be the biggest edition of the competition in its history.

Senior champions from last year Clara Peters and Conor Stakelum will be back again to add to their collection of hardware. Peters will also later on that evening perform an exhibition routine at the same venue during half-time at the Belfast Giants versus Nottingham Panthers ice hockey game.

The annual ISAI National Championships sees the best skaters in the country in the Senior, Junior, Novice, National Test and Adult level categories compete during the course of the event. Their performances will be evaluated by an accredited and experienced panel of Irish and international judges.

The Ice Skating Association of Ireland (ISAI) is the National Governing Body for the sport of figure skating. Competitive figure skaters perform technical elements, jumps, spins and step sequences, of varying degrees of difficulty to their choice of music in a choreographed routine. These elements are then evaluated by a panel of judges and the skaters are awarded points. The skater with the highest points total is deemed to be the winner.

Ice skating continues to grow in popularity as a recreational and competitive sport in Ireland. In the 2014/2015 season, the ISAI Learn to Skate programme was oversubscribed with only a quarter of applicants accepted due to limits on capacity. During the Christmas holiday period, over 56,000 people took to the ice in Dublin for a public skate with many repeat skaters.
