Dare to Believe Kicks Off New School Term with Kate O’Connor

The Dare to Believe schools programme launched its latest series of visits this week, with Paris Olympian Kate O’Connor inspiring students in two Dublin schools and setting the tone for another impactful year of Olympic storytelling in classrooms across Ireland.

On Monday, O’Connor, a European champion and World Championship silver medallist, began her day at The Teresian School, where she spoke to students about her journey through sport, the importance of setting ambitious goals, and the value of working hard to achieve them. Her relatable, down‑to‑earth delivery resonated strongly with pupils, who engaged enthusiastically in questions about her training, her journey and the moments that shaped her.

Later in the day, she visited Rutland National School, joined by EU Commissioner for Sport Glenn Micallef and Minister of State for Sport Charlie McConalogue. Both highlighted the vital role sport plays in young people’s lives, flagging the importance of getting active, especially with this being the European Week of Sport. Their presence underscored the growing recognition of Dare to Believe as a programme that meaningfully supports youth development through the Olympic values.

Students at Rutland NS heard firsthand how O’Connor navigated the highs and lows of elite sport on her path to European gold and World Championship silver. Since its launch in 2019, Dare to Believe, sponsored by Allianz and supported by Olympic Solidarity, has brought the Olympic Movement into classrooms nationwide. Through athlete visits, curriculum‑aligned resources and interactive learning, the programme helps students discover new sports, learn about wellbeing, and connect with real stories of perseverance and achievement.

This week’s visits mark the beginning of another exciting term, with Olympians and Paralympians set to travel across the country to inspire the next generation.
