BIOGRAPHY
Patrick Shannon represented Ireland in the men’s skeleton at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, finishing 25th overall.
From Campile, New Ross, Co. Wexford, Shannon was inspired to take up the sport after watching Clifton Wrottesley’s remarkable 4th place finish at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games. He began competing in skeleton in 2003 and became the third different Irish skeleton racer to qualify for the Winter Olympics – following Wrottesley in 2002 and David Connolly in 2006.
His best World Cup result was 23rd at Königssee in 2009, and he finished 25th at the 2008 World Championships in Altenberg. Outside skeleton, Shannon was also a competitive track and field athlete, a former winner of the triple jump, and was involved with Menapians AC in Wexford as an athlete and coach.
