BIOGRAPHY
PJ Barron represented Ireland in the men’s 15 kilometre freestyle cross-country skiing event at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, finishing 91st of 95 competitors.
From Huntly in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Barron qualifies for Ireland through Irish heritage. He was 21 at the time of the Games and described the experience as both a huge learning curve and the most enjoyable race of his life to that point, buoyed by the support of his family on the course.
He had been competing internationally since 2007, with his best career result a 13th place finish at a 5km event in Poland that year. He subsequently studied at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, completing both an undergraduate degree and a PhD – his doctoral research examined the physical demands of ladder climbing in the wind energy industry. He went on to work as an Endurance Coach for Scottish Cycling.
