BIOGRAPHY

Simon Linscheid represented Ireland in the two-man and four-man bobsleigh events at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, finishing 34th in the two-man alongside pilot Peter Donohoe and 30th in the four-man alongside Terry McHugh, Jeff Pamplin and Garry Power.

Linscheid came to bobsleigh from a background in hammer throwing, having trained for the Barcelona 1992 Olympics but narrowly missing qualification. His younger brother Roman competed for Ireland in the hammer at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

He was recruited into the new Irish bobsleigh programme by the Olympic Council of Ireland following the end of the first programme after Albertville 1992. He described his Olympic ambition as a lifelong dream, noting that the explosive power and speed required in bobsleigh push-starting closely mirrored the physical demands of his athletics background.
