Badminton European Championships 2018

Nhat Nguyen has maintained his good form at the 2018 European Junior Championships with a win over Daniel Popescu of Romania. Earlier in the day Rachael Woods played the first of her last 32 games, as she and partner Adam McAllister faced Lukasz Cimosz and Karolina Szubert of Poland. The Irish pairing started strongly but struggled to find the consistency they showed in the previous round where they beat the number four seeds Gijs Duijs and Madouc Linders of the Netherlands.

Rachael will now move her focus towards the women’s doubles last 32 match as she and her sister Rebecca will face the number four seeds Maria Alexandra Dutu and Ioana Grecea of Romania.

“It was disappointing for our mixed pairing today. They showed great potential with their opening win and started today’s match really well. The match today highlights the importance of sticking to a plan and keeping good focus throughout an entire game, and this is something that our players will need to develop if they hope to get to the next stage. Our players showed they can compete at this level and will take away the positives from the matches they played over the last two days”  Irish Coach Daniel Magee
