With only two weeks until the start of the 2011 World Championships in London, the draws have been released. This year’s major BWF event has been given the added kudos as the Olympic Test Event for London 2012 which means not only Olympic qualifying points for the players but also a unique Olympic feeling, which is especially sort after as tickets are so hard to come by for the 2012 Olympic Badminton event.
The Irish players have has mixed luck in the draw; Chloe Magee starts the Irish players off at the World Championships on Monday 8th August at 10am playing against A Firdasari (Ina). Her second round would be against S Nehwal (Ind) on Wednesday 10th. Sam Magee & Tony Stephenson then play their Men’s Doubles at 6pm on Monday 8th against V Konov/D Zavadsky (Ukr) with a second round awaiting versus B Chai/Z Guo (China) for Wednesday 10th. Scott Evans faces M Lahnsteiner (Aus) at 11.40am on Tues 9th August with a possible second round tie against Lin Dan (China) on Wednesday 10th. Sam/Chloe Magee face B Careme/L Choinet (France) on Tuesday 9th at 1pm with a possible second round tie on Wednesday 10th.
With the event so close to home I hope many of you will be able to get over to London and show your support for our players. For those that cannot make London then stay up to date with the results as they happen on www.badmintonireland.com.
