The Bulgarian ceremony was held in the Aula Maxima of the Academy and presided over by the Academy Rector, Professor Lachezar Dimitrov, in the presence of his Academic Council, the President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee and Olympic Champion Mrs. Stefka Kostadinova, and many Olympic dignatories. Mr. Hickey also lectured students of the Academy on the theme of ‘Facing the Future – what lies ahead for the Olympics?’
His visit concluded with a major Banquet in Sofia hosted by the Bulgarian Olympic Committee and attended by a wide range of Bulgarian sporting, political and business personalities including the Irish Ambassador, His Excellency Geofffrey Keating, and Irish Embassy personnel.
