Burnett 5th in World rankings

The ICPSA High Performance Programme received a welcome boost today when the updated world rankings were released by the International Shooting Sports Federation and Longfords Derek Burnett was placed fifth in Olympic Trap.

As Derek had not participated at all the previous ISSF ranking events during 2007 as a result of the training and performance schedule devised by the High Performance Director Kevin Kilty in consultation with his support Team, Derek’s previous ranking of 38th was somewhat misleading in light of his top ten placement in 2006.

However his consistent performance over the past number of events aided no doubt by his Silver medal at the ISSF World Cup in Slovenia has now been recognised by the ISSF accreditation points system and credit given accordingly.

The High Performance Squad now begins the countdown as they prepare for the World Championships which take place in early September on the island of Cyprus.

Never being ones to rest on their laurels in the H.P.P., as well as devising and ensuring adherence to the High Performance training plan, the programme Director Kevin Kilty is heading off this Friday to Oman for two weeks on behalf of the ISSF.  While in Oman, Kevin will be responsible for the administration and delivery of an advanced coaching course to the Omani Federation on behalf of the ISSF in conjunction with the Olympic Solidarity movement.

This trip comes hot on the heals of his recent attendance at an ISSF Shotgun Judges and Range Officials course and the ISSF Shotgun Referees course in Kuwait and Kevin is also currently in the process of qualifying for his “A” Class coaching licence and all of this while preparing for the Beijing Olympiad in conjunction with the Olympic Council of Ireland.
