European Olympic Committee President Pat Hickey, has been named in a distinguished group of people expected to have the greatest impact on the Olympic Movement in the year ahead. Hickey is named in 12th place in the "Around the Rings" magazines "Golden 25" most influential Olympic people.

The Olympic Council of Ireland has expressed its pleasure at the news that Kenny Egan has decided to stay in amateur boxing and make a bid to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The Olympic Science and Medical Group chaired by Dr Sean Gaine provides the OCI with expertise in terms of science and medical planning for Olympic Games The Olympic Council Medical team produced Acclimatisation and Medical booklets for team members and support staff in 2007, and they had excellent peer reviews from International experts, Professor Ron Maughan and Dr Richard Budgett.

The Olympic Council of Ireland, as a National Olympic Committee, have signed up to the 2009 World Anti-Doping Code with implementation taking effect from 1st January, 2009.
