Irish hockey umpire, Carol Metchette, was today notified of her appointment as umpire to the Beijing Olympics, 2008. This is a huge honour not only for Metchette but also for Irish Hockey as this is the first time Ireland has ever had a female hockey umpire appointed to the Olympics.

Ireland came from two goals down to beat world champions Germany three two to give the Irish a rare win over the World Champions.
