The Olympic Family of Europe is now heading for the Italian capital, where this year’s EOC General Assembly will take place on the 22nd and 23rd November.
As many as 400 participants are expected in Rome for this 42nd Assembly organised in cooperation with CONI, the Italian National Olympic Committee, the highlight of which will be the election of the new Executive Committee for the 2013-2017 quadrennial.
New IOC President Thomas Bach, his predecessor Jacques Rogge, Sheikh Al-Sabah, the new President of the worldwide association of NOCs, and Marius Vizer, the new President of SportAccord, will be among the Olympic personalities that have accepted the invitation of President Patrick Hickey and Secretary General Raffaele Pagnozzi.
The Assembly will be preceded by the last meeting of the Executive Committee currently in charge, as, the day after, the delegates of the 49 NOCs of Europe will have to choose the 12 Members of their new Executive Committee from a group of 17 candidates. There will be no surprises for the posts of President, Vice President, Secretary General and Treasurer as they are all unopposed.
The Assembly will also choose the winner of the 3rd Piotr Nurowski Prize for the best European Young Athlete, who will receive the trophy at the Gala dinner on 22nd November. Another highlight during the Rome Assembly will be the audience that Pope Francis will concede the Olympic Family of Europe at the end of the Assembly, on Saturday morning.
