EYOF Opening Ceremony

The 2011 Trabzon EYOF is underway following a spectacular Opening Ceremony on July 24th in the main Athletics Stadium. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip and Pat Hickey President European Olympic Committee were part of the proceedings. A cultural programme followed showcasing features of the Trabzon region.The Olympic flag entrance was raised and the athlete’s Oath and Judge’s Oath were taken.
Cyclist Eddie Dunbar had the honour of carrying the Irish Flag. Athletes from 49 countries involved in the 9 sports on show celebtarted enthiusiastlically and now look forward to the start of competition on Monday July 25th. Irish athletes and officials are now based in the Youth Olympic Village, following their training camp in Trabzon seen below looking forward to the Opening Ceremony and the start of competition.
