About
The 9th Summer European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) was held in Belgrade, Serbia, from 22-27 July 2007. Despite competing in intense heat Team Ireland delivered an excellent performance at the 2007 EYOF in Belgrade, winning five medals across athletics and swimming. Athletics contributed four of Ireland's five medals. Noel Collins won silver in the boys' 2000m steeplechase with a personal best performance, while Charlotte Ffrench O'Carroll secured silver in the girls' 3000m. Bronze medals came from Niamh Whelan in the 100m and Kourosh Foroughi in the high jump. In the pool, Gráinne Murphy won bronze in the girls' 400m freestyle, setting an Irish junior record in the process. Belgrade 2007 stands as one of Team Ireland's most successful EYOF campaigns of the 2000s.
