About

Team Ireland competed at the inaugural European Youth Olympic Days in Brussels in July 1991, marking the country's first participation in what would become the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF). The event provided young Irish athletes with an opportunity to compete against Europe's best emerging talent in a multi-sport environment modelled on the Olympic Games. Ireland enjoyed a successful festival, finishing with five medals, including three silver and two bronze. Athletics led the way, with Fiona Kelly winning silver in the 100m, Arlene Smith claiming silver in the 800m, and Claire Ignerton securing silver in the Long Jump. Team sports also contributed to Ireland's medal haul. The Women's Hockey Team captured bronze, while the Men's Football Team also won bronze.
