Gelana wins Women’s Marathon

Linda Byrne ran two hours 37 minutes and 13 seconds to finish 66th, three seconds ahead of Ava Hutchinson in 68th. Catriona Jennings was last of the finishers in a time of 3:22:11.

Tiki Gelana became the second Ethiopian woman to win marathon gold when she held off Kenyan Priscah Jeptoo to win a soggy race that started and finished in torrential rain.

Gelana clocked 2:23.07 to finish five seconds ahead of Jeptoo who was unable to reel in her African rival in the finishing straight on The Mall. Russian Tatyana Petrova Arkhipova won bronze in 2:23:29
