Hession's Dublin training base

Irish 200m Record Holder and Olympian Paul Hession (Athenry AC), has today announced that he will be moving from his current training base in Scotland to Dublin, to work with Coach John Coghlan.

Coghlan gained his coaching expertise while working alongside leading speed coaches Loren Seagrave and Paul Doyle in Atlanta; he has a degree in Sports Science from the University of Limerick. Hession will join the talented sprinter Steven Colvert who is a member of Coghlan’s training group.

Hession who has for the last number of years been based outside Edinburgh in Scotland training with well known sprints coach Stuart Hogg said: “Stuart and I, have a relationship which is built on mutual respect. He has provided me with world class coaching and mentoring over the last number of years and while John will now be my coach, Stuart will continue to be an important part of my support structure.”

The Galway man, who was bitterly disappointed not to have progressed to the 200m semi-final at the World Track and Field Championships in Daegu, will now turn his focus to the London Olympic Games having achieved the qualification standard at the Wooodie’s DIY Senior Track and Field Championships this year. Hession will be targeting a place in the final having narrowly missed out at the Beijing Olympics.

Stuart Hogg said: “I have worked with Paul for last 6 and half year and we have had always had a great working relationship. We have discussed this decision in great detail and he has my 100% backing as it is in his best interest and will provide him with the best opportunity to perform to the best of his ability at the London Games”
