2026 Antalya World Cup
Gymnastics Ireland enjoyed one of its strongest days on the FIG World Cup circuit in Antalya, securing three medals across two apparatus finals.
- Eamon Montgomery opened the finals on floor exercise, producing a clean and expressive routine executed with precision. Montgomery, who had qualified fifth, delivered under pressure to score 13.833, earning silver behind the Philippines’ Eldrew Yulo.
- Later in the session, Olympic Champion Rhys McClenaghan led a superb Irish performance on pommel horse. Competing first in the final after qualifying third earlier in the week, McClenaghan scored 13.900 to take gold, holding the lead throughout the final.
- Teammate James Hickey, competing in only his third senior World Cup, followed with a strong routine of 13.566 to claim bronze, completing a double podium for Ireland on the apparatus.
Gymnastics Ireland’s Director of Performance Sally Johnson praised the overall result:
“It has been a really strong day for the Irish men’s team in Antalya.
Eamon Montgomery’s silver is a real statement result — finishing on the podium at this level shows exactly the standard he is capable of delivering.”
She added that the pommel horse results reflected the progress of the programme:
“On pommel horse it was a fantastic result for Ireland, with Rhys taking gold and James securing bronze. It’s a very positive day for the programme and a strong reflection of the progress being made across the team.”
McClenaghan reflected on the team success:
“Very proud to take gold out here in Antalya and even more proud to contribute to Ireland’s most successful World Cup, along with Eamon’s floor silver and sharing the podium with James.”
