IOC Trophy presented to Fingal County Council

Olympic Council of Ireland President Pat Hickey has presented Fingal County Council with the prestigious International Olympic Committee Trophy for “Sport and Sustainable Development”.  Fingal Country Council is the local authority for the region in which the NOC offices are located and both bodies work closely on various sporting initiatives.

On presenting the trophy Mr Hickey said “Fingal County Council has created effective pathways for citizens of all ages to be involved and to participate in sport.  They have supported a network of accessible, high quality facilities and developed effective leadership strategies involving partnership with public, private corporate and voluntary bodies.”

Mr. Hickey made special mention of Fingal’s support of the visit of the Olympic torch to the NOC headquarters during the torch relay last summer.  ‘I cannot praise Fingal County Council highly enough for their fantastic support last June. They recognised the importance of having the torch visit the region and the powerful message it sent to the people of Ireland in terms of sporting  and, in particular, Olympic awareness.”
