Ireland first to arrive in Trabzon

Ireland were the first group to arrive in advance of the 11th European Youth Olympic Festival in Trabzon.

The Irish Team 46 athletes and performance support teams led by Chef de Mission Tom Rafter and OCI Sports Director Martin Burke arrived via their Turkish Airlines’ scheduled flight and were welcomed by EYOF 2011 Trabzon officials. 

The team are settling in to their training camp and have begun final preparations. Its important to get use to the environment in Trabzon and the Team have arrived well in advance to ensure optimum preparation time.

OCI Sports Director Martin Burke said “In preparation many of the athletes selected for this years Games attended the OCI training camp at the Romanian Olympic Training Centre last summer were they had an opportunity to get excellent coaching from their National Federations together with educational and practical input from the OCI sports science and medical team on all aspects of competing at this level and in this environment. It was an extremely vaulable experience for athletes and performance staff in advance of Trabzon. Weve also worked with our performance clothing sponsors ASICS to ensure the latest technical clothing is available to the athletes”

In total four thousands athletes from 49 countries will compete in the 2011 EYOF
