Ireland defeated Spain ( former Olympic Champions) 3-2 this afternoon in Belgium.
They led 2-1 at half-time with two penalty corner goals from O’Flynn.
They went further ahead in the 62nd minute with an open play goal by Speers.
Spain pulled one back but the Irish girls held on in a tense last few minutes.
What a fantastic result and they have assured themselves a playoff place on Sunday against hosts Belgium.
Here we go again: another hockey Olympic playoff !
