Irish boxers excel in France

The Irish boxing squad, who are preparing for the 17th World Elite Championships in Kazakhstan in October, won 13 of their 15 bouts against France and Poland in Berck and the Best Nation Award.

John Joe Nevin, Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlan, Adam Nolan, Jason Quigley, Joe Ward and Hugh Myres all had their hands raised in victory. Nevin, Barnes, Nolan, Quigley, Ward and Myres won two fights each.

“We’re happy where we are at this stage of our preparations and we’re obviously pleased to have won 13 bouts in France, but Ross’s accident does overshadow it,” said Walsh.

Hickey broke his left arm in the third round of Friday’s clash with French light-welter Amzille Hassan.
