Irish Boxing Squad for World Championships

The IABA have named a ten-strong panel for the AIBA World Elite Men’s Championships in Kazakhstan.

The Championships officially begin in Almaty on October 11th.

Four Belfast boxers – London 2012 bronze medalists Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlan, Sean McComb and Tommy McCarthy – have been named in the team.

Current European champion Jason Quigley will be aiming to add a second major Elite medal to his collection in the middleweight class in Central Asia.

Joe Ward and Ray Moylette, both ex World Youth and European Elite champions, line out at light-heavy and light-welter.

London 2012 Olympian Adam Nolan, Gary McKenna and Con Sheehan have also been named in the Irish squad.

The Irish team depart for Kazakhstan next Sunday.

 

The Irish squad and coaches Billy Walsh, Zuar Antia and Eddie Bolger will be available for interviews.
