Irish girls face tournament favourites in opening match

They play tournament favourites Holland tomorrow, 16th August, and will use the match to allow everyone to get match experience.

Holland and Ireland are representing the continent of Europe, and will also play Argentina,South Korea, New Zealand, and South Africa.

OCI Chief Executive Stephen Martin said, “The Olympic Council of Ireland have given Irish girls this opportunity to improve hockeys understanding of tournament play at this level. Its important that the team build a momentum and improve the quality of their performance as the the tournament progresses” he added,

“We would like to see the girls improve in all aspects of performance sport both on and off the field of play.

They have an experienced management team in Dave Passmore (performance director IHA) supported by Una McCarthy and Richie Malone U16 /U18 Coaches respectively and i believe the squad and management team are capable of meeting these objectives”

The Ireland U17 Girls Youth Olympic Team have made one change to their squad for the Youth Olympics with Amy Kate Trevor being brought in for Gemma Fraser who had acclimitization issues.
