Irish on Olympics Day 15 – Times to look out for

Canoeing: Andrzej Jezierski won the C1 200m B final, meaning he finishes ninth overall at London 2012.

Rob Heffernan finished in fourth place in the Men’s 50km walk with a time of 3:37:54. That time sets a new Irish record, smashing the previous record by a whopping 7:36.

Colin Griffin was disqualified from the 50km Walk.

Brendan Boyce finished 29th in the 50km Walk in a time of 3:55:01 – a new personal best.

Athletics: The two Irish starters in the women’s 20km walk are Olive Loughnane and Laura Reynolds.

Loughnane will be competing in her fourth Olympics, have previously appeared at Sydney, Athens and Beijing.

The 36-year-old finished in seventh place in the 20km walk at the Beijing Olympics.

Laura Reynolds represents Mohill & District Athletics Club in Co Leitrim, and has competed for Ireland at the World University Games and at underage European Championships. Her personal best in this event is 1:32.34.

The women’s 20km walk begins at 1700.

Boxing: John Joe Nevin goes into tonight’s bantamweight final after a superb 19-14 win over Cuban world number one Lazaro Alvarez Estrada yesterday.

The Mullingar boxer will fight Britain’s Luke Campbell for the gold medal. Campbell had a comprehensive 20-11 victory over Japan’s Satoshi Shimizu in the semi-final.

Nevin goes into the ring at 2045.

Modern pentathlon: Arthur Lanigan O’Keeffe is in action in the modern pentathlon. After the fencing event Lanigan O’Keeffe was joint 29th.

He had a better time of it in the pool, finishing ninth overall in the 200m freestyle. That leaves him 21st in the overall standings.

The riding starts at 1520 and the combined event starts at 1845.
