Irish Open Badminton

Scott Evans and Chloe Magee both comfortably won their opening round matches at the Carlton Irish Badminton Open in Baldoyle this morning.

Evand beat Maxime Michel 21-14, 21-11 in his opening round match. He players qualifier Daniel Groom of England later this afternoon (17.30) for a place in tomorrow’s quarter-finals.

Magee was equally untroubled in her opening round match with qualifier Jelske Snoeck of Belgium, winning 21-13, 21-8.

In other matches, Tony Stephenson lost to Sweden’s Mikael Westerback 15-21, 14-21. Two seeded players are out of the men’s singles. No 5 seed David Obernosterer narrowly lost to qualifier Rhys Walker of England 21-23, 19-21, while the No 4 seed Luka Wraber also Denmark went out to qualifier Patrick Kaeminitz of Germany.
