Robert Heffernan competes at the IAAF Race Walking Team Championships in Rome this weekend.
Heffernan, a former world champion over 50km, will drop down to 20km for tomorrow afternoon’s race.
After returning from a three-week training camp in Morocco, he will be looking to post a good performance prior to the Olympic Games in August.
Joining Heffernan in the 20km event in Rome are fellow Olympic qualifiers Alex Wright and Brendan Boyce, along with Westport’s Cian McManamon.
Elsewhere in Prague this Sunday Claire McCarthy and Gary Thornton will take their final shot at Olympic Games qualification.
The AAI internal selection for marathon will be held later this month and once this process is completed, nominations will be made to the Olympic Council.
