James Brown 200m Semi-Final

James Brown has finished in 16th place overall in the semi-final of the 200m Individual Medley at the European Games in Baku.

Having swam a lifetime best in this morning’s heats of 2:06.55 the Ards SC swimmer was unable to match that time in the semi-final touching in 2:07.15.

Speaking after his swim, the 18 year old commented “I was delighted with this morning’s swim, my aim was to go under 2 minutes 7 seconds and I did that so I was really pleased. Unfortunately the race didn’t come together as well this afternoon and I got one of the turns wrong, I’ll go back and look at that and then move forward to my 100m Butterfly and 400m IM swims later this week”

Austria’s Sebastian Steffan will go into tomorrow’s 200m Individual Medley Final as the fastest seed in 2:01.92.

As Brown takes a rest day tomorrow before the 100m Butterfly on Friday nine other Irish swimmers return to the pool for day three heats. Backstroke specialists Danielle Hill and Iseult Hayes compete in the 50m event with Alan Corby and Rory McEvoy swimming the 200m.

Hill will make her second appearance of the day in the 200m Freestyle along with Rachel Bethel while 200m Butterfly semi-finalist Emma Reid is in the 100m Butterfly heats.  Hill along with Bethel, Reid and Mona McSharry will combine for the 400m Medley Relay and Katie Baguley is back in the pool for her favoured event, the 1500m Freestyle.

Competition continues tomorrow to Saturday. Press releases will issue daily.
