Leadership training for Rio 2016

Team leaders preparing for Rio 2016 have been engaging with the OCI’s partner “The Leadership Trust” for Leadership and Management training.

Triona Connors, Horse Sport Ireland Team Leader said “I found it an incredible experience – it will help me practice the leadership development areas that i identified in the 3 day residential course. The leading with impact course was very intensive and will be of lasting benefit to me as we prepare for major competitions leading into the Rio 2016 Olympic Games”

The 3 day residential course chosen is designed to:

  1. Provide greater awareness and emotional intelligence when dealing with others
  2. Reinforce and explore  personal leadership impact and behaviours
  3. Understand the role of the leader to inspire and motivate others
  4. Review and reinforce personal and leadership strengths and weaknesses
  5. Enhance ability to know and control yourself, particularly when leading others
  6. Develop an action plan for your future personal leadership development

The key contents of the course are

  • 3-day residential experiential course with projects and practical exercises that utilise emotional intelligence and elicit real time learning
  • 360 feedback with pre course telephone coaching to establish personal learning objectives
  • Interaction and exchange of ideas on leadership behaviour
  • Structured reflection to embed learning and enable transference back to the workplace
  • Masterclasses on pragmatic concepts and tools for leadership
  • Additional concepts covered include coaching, mindfulness and Neuro-science sessions
  • Opportunities to practice “knowing and controlling” yourself in leadership situations
  • Peer feedback on leadership behaviour and impact
  • Post course telephone coaching session

Participants also receive an ILM Development Programme Certificate and access to 6 months ILM membership and a wealth of online learning materials to assist leadership development journey.

The next official OCI Rio 2016 Team Leaders and Coaches conference will be held in Malahide on the 9th and 10th October 2014.
