McMahon and Doyle miss out

Sycerika McMahon and Fiona Doyle both missed out on making the top 16 in the women’s 200 metres breaststroke at the European Swimming Championships in Berlin this morning.

McMahon was seventh in her heat in a time of 2:31.81, with Doyle also seventh in 2:32.23.

Doyle and McMahon made semi-finals in other events during the week, and although the 200 breaststroke is not one of their top events, not making the final 16 has disappointed both swimmers.

McMahon competes in Saturday’s 50 metres breaststroke, an event in which she took a silver medal in the 2012 Europeans in Hungary.

Doyle will be back in action on Saturday in the 50 breaststroke heats while McMahon is due to compete in the 200 freestyle on Friday.
