Belfast bantam Michaela Walsh bowed out of the European Games in Azerbaijan on a unanimous decision to Russia’s Elena Saveleva.
The London 2012 Olympian won all four rounds to earn a 40-36, 40-36,39-37 unanimous decision. Walsh lost the first frame today, but almost edged the second, the judges leaning in favour of the World bronze medalist on a split in Baku.But Saveleva took rounds three and four across the board to seal victory and book her place in the quarter-finals. “She’s (Saveleva) a very experience opponent and unfortunately it didn’t go our way on the day,” said Irish head coach Billy Walsh.Walsh put up a great fight against a very experienced opponent and she can be very proud of her performance.
