The Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Village (YOV) officially opened its doors today! Set to house 3800 athletes, along with team coaches and officials, the YOV is the heart of the Games and a place where athletes can relax, make new friends from around the world and the place they will call home for the duration of the Youth Olympic Games.
The YOV is much more than the place to sleep; it is also the centre of the Culture and Education Programme, which offers athletes a series of interactive workshops covering topics such as healthy eating, careers in sport, time management and media training, to name just a few! In addition athletes will have available information on subjects such as the dangers of doping, illegal betting and injury prevention.
A team of Athlete Role Models – Olympians and world champions from each of the 28 sports – will be on hand in their ‘lounge’ for athletes to stop by or take part in one of the ‘chat with champions’ sessions. In addition, 104 Young Ambassadors will reside in the village as the big brothers and sisters to the athletes to guide them through and help them make the most of their YOG journey.
To share their experiences, the digital centre is filled with state of the art technology to help the athletes connect with their families and friends around the world, as well as a fun #YOGselfie photo booth and lots of interactive Games on offer.
The YOV was officially opened by Executive President of the Nanjing 2014 organising committee, Yang Weize accompanied by IOC Executive Director, Gilbert Felli.
