Nevin tops World Series Rankings

The Irish champion, who boxes with Paris United in the WSB Team Championships, has won two fights from two for the French side so far in the European group.

Argentina’s Fernando Martinez is in No 2 position behind Nevin in the 12-match Series, which has 12 teams fighting out across three continents — Asia, the Americas and Europe

The top two boxers across five weight categories from the Team Championships qualify for the WSB Individual Championships, which has five places at the 2012 Olympic Games up for grabs.

Likewise, if Nevin finishes as one of the top two ranked bantamweights in the Team Championships, then he will have to win just one fight in the Individual Championships to secure qualification for the London 2012 Olympics.

Ken Egan, who signed with Miami in the Americas WSB group, is ranked 10th in the WSB light-heavyweight table. Nevin’s United team-mate Ludovic Groghue is No 1.

However, Egan has had just one match so far as he is serving a 45-day medical suspension after picking up a cut over his right eye in his November 23 win over Dorian Anthony of Los Angeles.
