Women’s Golf Stroke Play:
Stephanie Meadow: +2 (T31)
Leona Maguire: -2 (T21)
Leona Maguire carded a 69 on her final round to move up two places and finish for a tie of 21st in the Women’s Stroke Play Golf Tournament at Rio 2016.
She was the form player on the day across the opening nine holes to go out in 32, but struggled somewhat on the back nine and showed real resolve to birdie the 18th and finish her campaign on a high.
The Cavan golfer was one of just three Amateurs in the tournament. Her closed rival Albane Valenzuela also finished the tournament on -2.
Stephanie Meadow also birdied the last hole to ensure smiles in the clubhouse.
It was a solid 72 from Meadow with 15 pars and just the two dropped shots at holes 3 and 12.
She finished the tournament on +2 in a tie for 31st.

Aileen Reid secured Ireland’s best ever Triathlon result at an Olympic Games with 21st in today’s Women’s event in Rio.
The Derry woman produced one of the strongest 10k’s of the day to improve her standing by 15 places over the final leg of the race.
5 of those came over the last split alone as she improved on her London 2012 result by a full 22 places.
She was 31st after the 1.5k swim but had dropped to 36th after a difficult bike ride.
Men’s Modern Pentathlon:
Arthur Lanigan O’Keeffe: 8th Overall
Swimming Heat 4: 331 points (26th overall)
Fencing RR & BR: 198 points (26th overall)
Show Jumping: 300 points (15th Overall)
Combined Running/Shooting: 617 (8th Overall)
Arthur Lanigan O’Keeffe was 13th fastest in the 200m Freestyle in a time of 2:03.03. It was good enough for fourth in his heat but over 1.5 seconds outside his personal best.
He went on to pick up two bonus points in the Fencing Bonus Round with victories over Ukraine and Hungary before a sterling performance in the show jumping round saw him go clear in the time allowed for a maximum 300 points.
That meant he was 15th to start the combined event, 42 seconds behind leader Aleksander Lesun. A superb shooting performance allowed him to push hard and move into the Top 10 with won of the best
