Dermot Mc Dermott was an Irish middle-distance runner who competed for Ireland at the 1948 Olympic Games in London. From Dublin, he was a member of Phoenix Harriers, one of Ireland's most respected athletics clubs and a significant force in Irish track and field during the twentieth centure. Mc Dermott earned selection to the Irish Olympic team for London 1948. Athlthough selected fo the event Mc Dermott was recorded as a non-starter and did not compete in his Olympic heat. His experience reflected the difficulties at the time, when administrative disputes affeted a number of athleteds and contributed to several withdrawals from competition.
