Lignano Sabbiadoro 2005
3rd Jul 2005 – 8th Jul 2005
About
Team Ireland enjoyed one of its strongest EYOF performances to date at Lignano Sabbiadoro 2005, winning five medals across athletics and football. Athletics was the major source of success. David McCarthy won silver in the 800m, while Amy Foster, Eoin Healy, and Ciarán Ó Lionáird each secured bronze medals in their respective events. Ireland's athletics team had arrived in Italy with a strong squad, and several athletes delivered personal-best performances against Europe's leading youth competitors. The Irish men's football team also earned a bronze medal, adding a team success to the athletics medal haul. Together, these performances gave Ireland a total of five medals and highlighted the depth of emerging Irish sporting talent. The festival proved to be an important stepping stone for several future international athletes, including Ciarán Ó Lionáird, who later represented Ireland at the Olympic Games, and David McCarthy, who went on to enjoy a successful senior athletics career.
