Silver Lining for Irvine in Baku

Congratulations to Brendan Irvine who produced another big performance at the European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan , but fell just short in the 49kg final to Russian southpaw Bator Sagaluev.

The ex World Series of Boxing fighter was handed a split decision over the Irishman after three, three minute rounds at the Crystal Hall. The experienced Sagaluev, finding his range and the target quicker, deservedly won the first frame today.

Well done Brendan and Team Ireland Boxing – superb performances throughout the tournament.
