OCI holds London 2012 seminar

The Olympic Council of Ireland held a seminar for Olympic performance leaders at the newly refurbished Tollymore Outdoor pursuits conference centre in Tollymore , 2 miles from Newcastle, Co Down. Representatives from Olympic sports likely to have athletes qualify for the Games in London attended. Chris Jones Triathlon Performance Director said that he “appreciated the open and transparent nature of the event and the comprehensive content and discusssion from the Olympic Council , led by Stephen Martin and Martin Burke” 

Stephen Martin , himself involved in Team GB ‘s rise to top four nation in Olympic competition between 1998-2006 said, ”  For many Performance leaders this will be there first Games with Ireland , although many have been involved in GB and US systems before.We covered a number of important issues including performance clothing, performance accreditation processes, science and medical support and how we best work together between now and the Games. We want to ensure that we engage not just with performance leads , but also with National Federation and Institute support staff between now and London 2012 to ensure they all feel part of the overall network”.

The OCI will be holding a 2 day London 2012 conference with a focused group of performance leaders, coaches and support staff on the 9th, 10th December 2010 at the same venue, followed by meetings with London 2012 potential athletes led by Chef de Mission Sonia O’Sullivan . The key elements of the conference will be delivered and facilitated by experts from the OCI, Institute of Sport and Sports Institute of NI.
