OCI support for Morrison

Aileen has emerged as Triathlon Ireland’s most exciting London 2012 Olympics prospect after a number of excellent results in 2010.

Her 5th place on home soil at the Waterways Ireland ITU European Championships in Athlone was the best result ever by an Irish triathlete. Aileen is pictured with Martin Burke OCI sports director who manages the programme.

In round 5 of the 2010 ITU World Championship Series in Hamburg Aileen claimed a bronze medal, finishing just seconds behind Sweden’s Lisa Nordern and Australia’s Emma Moffatt.  The result is the greatest achievement by an Irish triathlete to date.

A Derry girl, who was discovered within the Triathlon Ireland Age Group racing scene, Aileen trains in Lisburn, is coached by Chris Jones and works very closely with the staff of the Sports Institute of Northern Ireland.

Aileen receives athlete funding from Sport Northern Ireland and the Irish Sports Council but the scholarship will allow her to add value to her programme and qualification for the Olympic Games in London.

The OQS process for Triathlon means that Aileen has to use the best 14 results from the world championship series of races between- June 2010- 31st May 2012.

Therefore Aileen has to travel extensively to competitions around the world at great expense

Chris Jones Performance Director Triathlon Ireland believes is responsible for the Triathlon programme, with Aileen being the sports highest ranked athlete.
