O’Donovan Medals at U23 World Rowing

Ireland’s Paul O’Donovan stepped up on the podium in Linz in Austria to accept a bronze medal at the World Under-23 Rowing Championships.

It’s seen as a major boost for Irish rowing under the guidance of Morten Esperson. The women’s four came very close to a medal and lightweight sculler Denise Walsh also reached an A Final, finishing sixth.

Ireland’s other crews finished ninth, 10th and 12th, with Adam Boreham taking 24th in the single sculls.

The women’s four were very disappointed not to medal as they were third with the final quarter to go but hit a buoy and missed a stroke. New Zealand, who were behind them, rowed through and took bronze, behind winners Australia and Russia.
