The boxer has been awarded a grant of 10,000 euros as part of the Council’s Beijing Bursary scheme to assist young athletes preparing for the Olympics. The athlete was on a development grant of 5k from the ISC.
“John Joe is a great prospect for both the Beijing Games and for London 2012,” said Council president Pat Hickey.
“He could be the surprise packet of the Irish medal challenge in Beijing and we hope this helps his preparations.”
