Olympic Medallist O’Connor in China

Olympic show jumping Bronze Medallist Cian O’Connor is competing at the FEI International Show in Beijing this week.

Before going to China he met with the Chinese ambassador Luo Linquan at his residence in Dublin.

Horse Sport Ireland was part of Minister Simon Coveney’s trade mission to Beijing earlier this year.
On the trip, opportunities for the Irish Sport Horse sector in China were identified and further links are being developed.

Horse Sport Ireland also had a stand at the HORFA trade fair in Shanghai earlier in September.

The feedback from the fair was that the Olympic successes of Ireland’s horses and riders in London had boosted our standing within the Chinese horse sector.

Horse Sport Ireland CEO Damian McDonald said: “It is very welcome that Ireland will have an Irish Olympic medallist competing in China.

It will further increase Ireland’s equestrian profile there and it is great that Cian has taken the trouble to go.”

Due to quarantine restrictions riders will compete at the show on borrowed horses. Beijing International Horse Show takes place at the Beijing International Equestrian Club from tomorrow (Saturday) and finishes on Sunday.
