Olympic seminar for coaches

Coaches who have athletes with the potential to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games will meet Olympic Council of Ireland’s CEO and Sports Director Stephen Martin and Martin Burke on March 8th 2011. The meeting is part of the OCI engagement strategy to ensure open and transparent communication between all sports performance staff in the build up to London.

The OCI London Management Team of Sonia O’Sullivan, Stephen Martin and Martin Burke, have scheduled a number of key seminars and conferences in the build up to London targeted at Performance leads, coaches, science and medical support staff and athletes.

Stephen Martin said ” its important that the coaches , who have a crucial performance role, understand how the Games work compared to other major championships, should their athlete/s qualify and should they become part of the Olympic team. We need to spend time with them and vis versa to ensure we provide their athletes with the best possible support under the unique regulations that apply at the Olympic Games. Its also an ideal opportunity for a group of experienced coaches to learn and share experiences with each other”

Coaches invited to attend include for example: Ivonne Cassin, Stuart Hogg, Stephen Maguire (Athletics); Zaur Antia, Peter Taylor (Boxing); Etorre Evaldi, Han Bijnen, Brendan Maloney (Canoeing); Paul Revington (Hockey); Jim Laugausen (Badminton); Ronald Claes, Paul Donovon (Swimming); Andy Sparks (Track Cycling) and Tristan Paris (Modern Pentathlon)

Note; The next more expansive group conference with OCI,Institute of Sport and National Federation Performance teams is scheduled for April 2011 at Tollymore Mountain Centre , Newcastle Co Down,and follows on from the initial Olympic Conference in December 2010.
